GPA
GPA (Grade Point Average)
GPA is a number that is calculated each semester reflecting students' success in classes. It is the total number of grade points earned that semester divided by the number of classes attempted. Non-credit bearing classes (like office aides and counseling aides) do NOT count as an "attempted class" as they are not given a letter grade. GPA's at MRHS are cumulative, meaning the average is taken from the total number of grade points and classes taken over the course of all high school years.
Total Grade Points # of Classes Attempted
GPA is calculated two different ways at MRHS: unweighted and weighted. The difference is the point value given to different letter grades in advanced courses. See the point values for each letter grade below
Letter Grade | Non-weighted class | Weighted class |
---|---|---|
A+, A, A- | 4 | 5 |
B+, B, B- | 3 | 4 |
C+, C, C- | 2 | 3 |
D+, D, D- | 1 | 2 |
F | 0 | 0 |
Weighted courses are designated with an * in the descriptions. We focus on weighted GPAs here, however some colleges only accept unweighted GPAs, so both are included on your transcript.
